The Girl Scout Difference

We know the world needs more female leaders and the Girl Scout Mission is just that: to develop girls to be leaders in their own lives and in the world they live in. Because of the dedication and investment of time, care, and energy of all our Girl Scout families and volunteers, that mission comes to fruition and we are grateful for it.
Our focus is - and always will be - the girls. We must raise our collective voices to emphasize the Girl Scout difference, and to uplift all the wonderful things our girls are doing right here in Maine.
What makes Girl Scouting different:

Girl Scouts is contemporary and relevant designed specifically for girls, by girls. Take look the latest program offerings in STEM and the Outdoors
Research shows that both boys and girls benefit greatly from single gender environments where they learn better and do not associate gender bias to activities.
Most of a girl's life is coed. Girl Scouts is a unique all-girl, girl-led experience that is available to all girls. Check out this article about the importance of single-gender experiences
How a girl spends her time is her and her family's decision. We know that the best choice for a girl to develop leadership is with other girls, and a female role model, who do exciting skill-based activities, go on amazing trips and do community action projects that make their world better.

Click for larger view
Did you know that you can easily update your meeting information and number of girls, all in your My GS Member Profile?

At the bottom of your troop tab in Member Profile, just select the arrow next to VIEW/EDIT TROOP INFORMATION and a menu appears (click on graphic to the right to see example).

Here, you can update your meeting place and time, as well as the troop's desired number of girls for the 2019 and/or 2020 membership years.

By ensuring your information is up-to-date, the GSME Placement team will be able to make sure that your troop information and all openings are listed correctly in the online Opportunity Catalog for new members. Learn more about the Opportunity Catalog
